| TAROT TIPS |
| Which pack should I choose? |
Any pack which appeals to you!
You can find Tarot cards with themes on Angels, Cats, Crystals, Halloween, Hollywood stars, Medieval, Plants, Witches, etc. it is almost endless.
You should take your time to carefully look at the pictures of a Tarot pack and make notes mentally about your first impressions. If you feel at ease and calm and attracted to the pack, then it is for you. Although the symbolism of the cards is different from pack to pack, the meaning of the cards is universal.
Take into consideration both the major and minor arcana, as some packs have beautiful artwork on the major arcana and no picture representation of the minor.
As a student of the Tarot you will find that minor arcana represented by everyday scenes are easier to study and understand. For that reason, I chose the most popular tarot packs (Rider Waite) for the Awakening Tarot Course |

| How do I look after my cards? |
One way is to remove the cards from their packaging and to place them in a pouch (or fabric) and then in a wooden box (my favourite way of protecting them).
Or alternatively, you can follow the traditional way by wrapping your cards in silk.
Do not forget these are only guidelines, experiment and see! As long your cards are protected from spills such as coffee or tea etc, and safe from dust...you should have no problems. |
| |
| Should I "charge" my cards with my energies? |
The first time I acquire a new pack, I just touch all the cards and mentally thank them for the knowledge I will be given during readings. You can also send them a prayer (depending on your beliefs).
I also light an incense stick and lay all the cards on my "altar" (which is my favourite wooden roundtable) and slowly pass the stick over the cards while meditating on them. |
| |
| How do I connect with my cards? |
|
One way to connect with your cards is to put the whole pack (in its pouch) underneath your pillow or by your bedside. As you sleep the cards may influence your dreams and unconscious. Note any dreams related to the Tarot or symbolisms you may have had in your Tarot journal (a notebook should suffice).
Alternatively, you can choose any cards from the major or minor Arcana (maximum 3) because of their essence and put them underneath your pillow to "acquire" their knowledge. For instance by putting the Star and Temperance cards underneath your pillow, you will encourage healing and balance in your life. You can leave the cards as long as you wish. Experiment and see what works for you!
The most important thing is to take care of your cards and to treat them like true friends. Your cards are yours personally. For instance, I do not like people touching my cards without my consent! The only time I allow people to touch them is during readings. Again, this is how I feel about my Tarot cards. You may feel differently. Follow your instincts or intuition. |

Should I have a special room and table to do my readings? |
If you are blessed with plenty of room, my answer is yes.
You can organise your room for esoteric purpose and therefore decorate it appropriately (table, couch, crystals, candles, wall colour, curtains, etc. Let your imagination guide you). By doing so, you just prepare yourself to be in your world and therefore feel comfortable.
My front room is my "reading room" and is decorated in a way I feel happy and comfortable with and so do my clients. Again, perhaps reading on the kitchen table or in a crowded café will work for you. As you should know by now, my motto is: experimentation. It is the best way to discover what works for you. After all, readings are the special relationship between you the reader and your cards. Your experiences of life, your own views and beliefs will be at work during readings and therefore how you prepare yourself and your surroundings is entirely up to you. Be bold, be creative, be YOU!
If not, choose any room (apart from your bedroom) and make sure you will not be disturbed for an hour or so and set up a table (preferably wooden table - wood being an excellent conductor of energies).
Put a fabric over the table (go for your favourite colour for instance). Then put one or two candles, a burner with essential oils or incense.
You can put on your table a Crystal or two. Again, these are accessories which help me to feel in the mood and make me feel happy. It does not mean than you have to have any of them. It's a question of taste and choice. See for yourself!
You can put some ambient music on when you will start your meditation before a reading. However, during a reading, it is better to turn the music off as it can distract you or the person you will be reading for.
Make sure the person you will read for is sitting comfortably. |

| Should I record a reading? |
It is better to record a reading as during sessions (half an hour or more), a lot of things can be unravelled and the querent may not remember everything which has been said (particularly when the events unfold a year or two later!).
If you intend to read professionally, I highly recommend that you record the entire session to avoid any misunderstanding regarding your advice and/or predictions. |
| |
| How often should I give a person a reading? |
A general reading should be given every 3 to 6 months (let time unfold future events!)
For more specific situations, your common sense should guide you. Be aware of "Tarot addicts" who will ask for a reading every week or day (particularly when it is free of charge).
One must understand the profound meaning of a reading and guard against excessive readings. One has to work hard to improve situations. However, you can meditate everyday on your cards (I highly recommend it). If you have more questions, do not hesitate to contact me. |
